{ engagement at the overlook } Mark & Meredith's Story

Mark and Meredith live in Cincinnati, Ohio. Although they knew one another at Miami University, they began dating after college. Over two years later, and two puppies, Mark asked Meredith to marry him on September 12th, 2015. Here is their proposal story, as told by Meredith. Enjoy!

September 12th was an extremely normal Saturday for Mark and me. Our morning was filled with coffee, workouts, errands and football practice, followed by a one year old’s birthday celebration.

I take the whole, "Saturdays are for adventures, Sunday's are for cuddling" thing really seriously. So, at the birthday celebration, I was organizing an afternoon get-together at our house. Little did I know all that was to come.

We have two dogs, Jax and Rue. And, more days than not, a walk is in the cards. We are lucky enough to live in a neighborhood that has amazing sidewalks that lead to beautiful parks with gorgeous views. The sunshine made this late summer day sensational, so off we headed on our walk. Mark had a path in mind, and being the planner that he is, it didn’t throw off our typical routine. Our walk lead us to a great spot called Heekin Overlook in Ault Park.

Heekin Overlook & "The Edge" Rue decided to jump from.
Jax and Rue are rowdy little pups with big personalities. I would be lying if I said I didn’t treat them like my children. As we stopped to gaze at the vast green space that was below, Rue took a dive off of the edge. We quickly rescued her, and then sat down to chat. I figured we were just sitting down to take a little breather after reeling in Rue from her first base jumping experience.

That’s where my memory leaves me....

Before I knew it, Mark was on his knee, ring box in hand and I was blown away. To be honest, I am not even sure if I said “yes.” We hugged. We kissed. We laughed. We snapped a few selfies.

We began our walk home and the stunningly bright sun quickly dissipated and refreshing rain started to pour. I remember looking up at the sky, as the rain fell, and thinking “This is the best moment of my life!”

The proposal was surprise enough, but what came next was something that I could have never imagined. We walked into the house, and I got a glimpse of so many smiling faces. Just as the rain started pouring minutes earlier, tears started running down my face. My parents, my brothers and grandparents. Mark’s family. Our great friends. Everyone was there to celebrate us!

As the night carried on, more and more people began stopping over to soak up all the love!

I love the idea that Mark proposed in an intimate setting with just our dogs. My heart grew even fuller when I realized how much effort he put into bringing everyone together to celebrate. I couldn't have asked for a better proposal!
